====== Homeserver migration 2015 ====== ==== Why is this upgrade necessary? ==== An upgrade of the home server has been planed for quite a while. The old system is at 85% usage and the hardware is rather old. So it has to be upgraded in the near future anyway. The reason we are doing it now is that there is a hardware failure in the attached storage system which will most likely force a reboot of the home server. In the worst case it might even stop working. So we might as well move everything to a new server before trying to repair the storage system. ==== Before and after... ==== ^ ^ old ^ new ^ | Server | Dell M600 Bladeserver | Supermicro X9DRD-iF | | CPU | 2x Xeon E5430 (2x4cores) | 2x E5-2650 (2x8cores) | | Memory | 16GB DDR2 FB-DIMM | 64GB PC3-12800R | | Network | 1Gbit (BCM5708S) | 10 GbE (82599ES) | | Backend | IBM DS4800 SAN @ 4Gbit/s FC | Areca ARC-1883 @ 6Gbit/s SAS | | RAID-Level | RAID5 | RAID10 | | Disks | 16x 300GB Fibre Channel | 20x 1TB SSD | | Capacity | 4TB | 10TB | | Filesystem | ext4 | ext4 | | Uptime | since 9th of july 2013 | |
