Remote Access to the Physics Department
Remote Access to Windows
For some reason it might be required to access the computers at the physics department while you aren't on site. For instance, if you need to run a software which is available on the department computers only or when you want to use a computer with more compute power than you have available at your current location. These services are naturally subject to the terms and conditions regarding the use of computer systems at the department.
The department hosts computers that are running Windows and Linux operating systems, with both offering the possibility to log in from a remote location.
On Windows computers, a service called Remote Desktop (also known as rdesktop) is provided which can be used from any computer running Windows, MacOS X or Linux. The main terminal server for use by department members is term.imp.fu-berlin.de. Please carefully read the rules for terminal server usage first and follow the instructions below:

Please note that remote desktop access from outside the university network to your desktop computer is blocked by the ZEDAT firewall.
